Hey -I thought those screws were temporary, but this looks pretty long-term…?
After spraining the ankle in June, I wasn’t happy and went ahead to re-sprain it and fractured a bone as well, in August - cast and pain free now but it did merit me “the razie award for the best/most wipe-outs” as instituted by the local club… http://www.flickr.com/photos/razvanc99/6312359282/in/photostream
Hi mate, no the screws are permanent, but their purposes is to provide support while the bone graft takes — you cannot see the bone graft very well in this image format. The most recent operation fused the sacrum to the ilium, adding 2 more screws to the existing 6.
Ankle sprains need attention to rehabilitation mate. That’s how I ended up where I am — recurrent spraining of my ankle led to joint destabilisation in the lower spine.

Thanks for reminding me - especially putting it in context
I got complacent for the past few weeks and ski racing season is… well, around the corner!
