The faith schools aren’t just for Muslims, either. Many many schools are faith schools - I remember that some kids were allowed to miss assembly, but I didn’t know why at the time - they were Jewish or Muslim and the rest of us were hearing some tripe about God and Jesus, and singing hymns.

By that point, I was atheist, but I was never explicitly given a choice about assembly. I just thought those kids were prone to fainting or something, as we had to stand up in assembly.

On a plus point, one of my old offices used to be an Islamic school - it was truly beautiful, apart from where the idiots had destroyed the original decor by putting striplights in.
