Why is a web page suddenly taken off Google search results?

I noticed once before that this site was taken off Google’s search results immediately after posting a number in hexadecimal format that was apparently a copyrighted work and therefore, a violation of some other country’s law — something about DMCA. I immediately retracted this post and the web site returned to Google search results.

So I ask, what have I done now? Why can’t I google up my own rantings? Anyone got any hints?

Well, this is purely speculative, but you DO bash religions fairly frequently… Interesting about the hex number trashing your rating

I bash religions? I’m not so sure about that (perhaps, I describe religions in an accurate way that does not appease the bigots who demand higher status for their state of logical inconsistency, but then, so do a lot of free thinking people and their web site is still available through Google) and even if I did, why would that have any effect?

Right now I can find your site in Google. It’s not in the first results, but it can be found in the first page. try googling for some of your posts titles in quotes, like this: http://www.google.com/search?q=“folds+for+imperative+programmers”

    Daniel,
Perhaps it is me then. If I go to that search that you mention, I see no links back to this website - only other websites (such as reddit.com) that link back to it.

    What do you see?

FWIW in the recent past I’ve tried to find this blog (when I hadn’t it bookmarked) and I had trouble getting it to show up on Google. I thought that was weird.

Weird, the first result for me is your blog post, the second is reddit’s link to and the third is HWN’s of 20070109.
Let’s see what can be influecing this: I’m in Brazil and the search engine may be tailored to different countries (even if I’m using google.com instead of google.com.br which usually give slightly different results). I’m also logged on google, my info appears in the results page at the top, so it may be different when you’re not logged in. Actually I just tried using konqueror (which has no cookies, hence logged in) and the link to your blog is missing. Bizarre.

When I click on the above google search link I see this as the 3rd hit:

    λ Tony’s blog λ » Blog Archive » Strong Type Systems
The Dawkins Delusion · Folds for Imperative Programmers ». Strong Type Systems. I have been reading articles lately that make a case for or against ’strong …

There was a christian offender shown here a few days before - now he’s gone. :)

  9. Tony Morris Says:

    He’s back ;)

Google provides webmaster tools so you can check the visibility of your site:
